‘Pupils feel safe and their behaviour is outstanding.’
Wilkes Green Junior School is a larger than average sized Primary School for boys and girls between seven and eleven years of age situated in the heart of Handsworth. Many pupils live beyond the immediate area served by the school. The school is able to admit up to 90 pupils into each year group. The school population of 360 reflects the varied ethnic backgrounds of the local families. Wilkes Green Junior School believes in the importance of providing a caring, stimulating and structured environment, within which children are encouraged to develop relevant skills, concepts and knowledge. Building upon the child’s existing cultural, social and educational experience, the school seeks to ensure that each child has the opportunity to reach their full potential.
a strong model of contemporary
The school seeks to develop in each child a sense of responsibility and self discipline, an ability to co-operate with and relate to adults and other children, the ability to work independently and with self motivation, a sense of positive self esteem, physical skills and a range of academic skills and knowledge. These elements should be relevant to the child’s existing needs as well as preparing him/her for future school experience and adult life. An important aspect of this is the ability to live and work successfully within a multi-cultural society and to value and contribute to the communities which they are a part of.
