Home School Agreement

Q: What is the Home School Agreement?

A: The Home School Agreement sets out the basic elements required for the effective education of your child or a child you are responsible for. It acknowledges that we must commit ourselves to support our children’s development at every stage to ensure their future.

Q: Why have a signed agreement?

A: A signed agreement demonstrates that each individual becomes a willing partner sharing the responsibilities and willing to conform to the conditions of the Home School Agreement.

Q: What are the benefits of the Home School Agreement?

A: The strength of the Home School Agreement is the manner in which it brings us altogether. It provides an important platform and communication channel through which parents and teachers will continually evaluate the performance of the child and enable adjustments to be made to maximise their learning programme.

Q: Is it a legal requirement?

A: In line with sections 110 and 111 of the School Standards and Framework Act 1998 the governing bodies of all maintained schools, academies, city technology colleges and city colleges for the technology of the arts must publish a home-school agreement and associated parental declaration.

The governing body must take reasonable steps to ensure that all registered parents of pupils of compulsory school age sign the parental declaration to indicate that they understand and accept the contents of the agreement.

A copy of the Home School Agreement can be found in your child’s My School Diary.
